Something really special is going on with ACHPP.
I’ve had a long career in workforce development, but my work with disadvantaged youth has been the most fulfilling. So I became interested in the Pathways and the mission of ACHPP.
In my experience, there is nothing more empowering than a mentor in your life—a role model, a sounding board, someone who can direct you. I was a first-generation college student, and I had people who helped me through that.
These kids may not understand what job opportunities are available or how to access them. We put them on a Pathway and help them overcome those impediments. And this has a multiplier effect in their communities, in their families, and in their lives.
I tell these youth to take full advantage of their first work experiences, make friends with their supervisors and co-workers, because that network will open doors for them all along their life path.
